Movement Landscape (from 3 to 10 yo)
Movement landscape means that diverse materials and equipment are set up and provided accordingly in different constellations (high plateaus, mat slides, fixed and free hanging balancing bars, various swinging elements, horizontal slopes, vertical ladders, ropeways, ferries, spiderwebs and so on). Each child itself decides how to use the landscape. Like in a natural landscape, there is no beginning and no end. Therefore the directions the users are taking are also determined by them or result from a specific application function of the material.
The present persons in support see themselves as companions and observers. They are here to help and secure if the children are in need. They are available for conflict resolutions and make sure that the ground rules are being followed. Through their observation of the children they can gain information on the children’s movement motives that are needed for their further development.
Each course unit of the movement landscape is started with a collective game, followed by the so-called “free movement phase” in which the children exploit the landscape self-determinedly and is concluded with a collective game or sensitizing exercise. The movement landscape can only be attended by children, parents aren’t allowed to be present in the gymnasium so the children aren’t distracted.
