Circus courses (from 7 to 19 yo)
Circus KAOS wants to create a platform of activities for all different kinds of people, in order to facilitate diverse movement experiences so that they can develop versatile competences in relation to their body- and self-awareness, experiences with equipment and social skills. The bottom line of the form of circus pedagogy practised at Circus KAOS is the self-determined movement experience.
Circus KAOS offers nine courses on five days of the week at different locations in Vienna. All courses start with the collective physical preparation for the various movement possibilities, first in form of a game, followed by stretching, invigoration and coordination exercises. This is succeeded by the so-called “free movement phase”, in which the children can choose freely which equipment to use, how long they want to stay at each station, and what kind of exercises and tricks they want to acquire. The “free movement phase” takes place in a prepared environment – the spatial set-up is always the same with possible situational deviations (if wishes for specific exercises or requests from children arise, or new equipment is offered). Persons in support, who help the children if they want and request this, are allocated to the different movement areas. Moreover the persons in support resume the securing of participants in moments of danger and make sure that all ground rules are being followed. Each course unit is concluded with a game.
At the end of each school year the participants can take part in a performance, if they want to. Working in circus is inventive and creative, which supports the personality as a whole of each child and requires the collaboration of all children at the same time. Individual skills and group solidarity are being tied together to form the foundation for a successfull cooperation where each child has the possibility to present their art.
